A quick trip into New York City

I live in Florida, used to live in New York and always told myself and others that I love this city, except when it’s cold.

My daughters took me along on their planned trip of just a few days in the city, and as luck would have it, it was cold!

We had a great time in spite of the weather, I’ve been out of the constant buzz of the city for years and the noise of the city traffic, sirens blaring all around, motorcyclists and cabbies blowing their horns, people hurriedly walking to get to work and everywhere else, it took me aback for about a minute but quickly fell in step with the flow or risk being left in the NYC dust.

Every time I visit the city invigorates me mentally more so than physically, the fast pace is well suited for the young but for me as as a senior citizen these days I have to cede the pace to my kids.

Still, I love New York, especially in the evenings! We managed to visit Rockefeller Center, to enjoy the sights of the Christmas lights and decor, and the main Brooklyn Public Library for the Book of HOV exhibit.

We were up and down the gamut of public transportation (I’d forgotten to factor in the toll it can take, especially going up and down the subway stations) we visited the Metropolitan Museum on our last day in the city, and was not disappointed. I was able to enjoy some of the Degas, Rodin and my favorite…Monet Water Lilies.
