Weekly Photo Challenge: Two Subjects

A view of London from the Thames

This is one of my favorite pictures, taken a few years ago during a trip to London; I took this picture during a cruise through the River Thames on one of those days when the London weather decided to cooperate. That day we discovered that one of the best ways to see London’s famous landmarks, is from the river. As we went past London County Hall, I was duly impressed with the architecture of its building and had to snap this picture. You can see a corner of the London Eye peeking through on the left side as well a ship passing by. This week’s photo challenge: Two subjects.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Journey

I have been waiting for an opportunity to post these pictures, and this week’s theme “Journey” just provided the perfect one. Most days I go out for a walk with Sasha, our lab/husky mix, around 1:00 pm; the same scene usually greet us on our journey.

Across the street, on our neighbor’s yard, a turtle has made her home. She comes out of her nest a couple of times a day but most definitely at the same time we go for our daily walk. She even spies us as we approach her territory and ensures to get closer to her refuge the closer we get. Her antics fascinate me, so this time I decided to capture some of her moves as she is sunning and then when she quickly runs to hide from us, all along–Sasha anxiously hopes to follow, it is a daily “dance” that leaves me exhausted but marveled at the animal kingdom’s instinct to hunt and the need to ensure survival.

Suntan time, just chilling!
Ahhh, the sun feels so good; but here comes that dog. Gotta go!
Patiently waiting... just let me loose I'll get her!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Arranged

This week’s photo challenge: “Sometimes you chance across things which were arranged on purpose, or on a whim – find something in your environment which was arranged by a human hand for others to enjoy!” Share a picture that means ARRANGED to you!

On a recent trip to the Farmers’ Market I was happy to find some of the fruits and veggies I like. Beside bananas, which I love, there was an ample supply of green plantains–which put a smile on my face. Growing up in Panama, one of my favorite meals to have on a Saturday morning would be “Patacones con Salchicha” or “Pescado” or “Carne”, also known as “Tostones” in other Latin cultures–it basically translates into “fried plantains with sausage, fish, or meat”; but plantains are one of the most versatile fruits you can find, they are nutritious and delicious and a great complement to many meats, fish, shrimp even egg omelets.

Arranged in this basket are some of the fruits that made it into our very own yummy dish, such as the one displayed below.

Tropical produce…patacones anyone?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Through

The photo challenge for this week, through, provided me with the opportunity to post this picture of my hubby, taken last week while he was pruning the trees in our yard. I was just playing around at the time, but it worked to my advantage. You can see him through the branches…hard at work while I played with the camera. Thanks for the photo opp, honey!

Meanwhile right on the lot next to us these vultures, were watching us. Ugh, what a creepy feeling I got.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unusual

This week’s photo challenge, calls for an image that represents something unusual to me. So, I picked this photo, taken during this past holiday season. A replica of the Pinta and the Nina, (Columbus ships) sailed into town for an exhibit, and promptly anchored at Fisherman’s Village Marina in Punta Gorda, FL.

I just had to go see if I could take a picture; after all, this is not the usual type of vessel that is normally found at the marina. I am so glad I was able to take this shot! The ship looks so magnificently out-of-place in this environment; but hey, it served my purpose!
